Abstract: People are reporting higher levels of stress than ever before. But what is stress, and how does it impact learning and mental health? Why are some individuals more vulnerable to stress than others? Published work at MIT highlights how different forms of reappraisal can improve your response to a stressor and improve your well-being. While the study reinforced the value of reappraisal as a cognitive tool in building resilience, questions arise around the role of language in shaping our stress perceptions. To address mental health issues in the age of AI, researchers must consider the promise of language in shaping brain functions.
