Alicia V. Stevens, Gates Cambridge Scholar with a PhD and MPhil from the University of Cambridge (Department of Archaeology), MSc. from Columbia University, and BA from the University of Michigan. Her research intersects cultural heritage and political anthropology with a focus on the political uses of culture amid repressive regimes, from colonialism to authoritarianism to hybrid political systems. She is currently writing a book, Liminal Heritage and Political Transition: Culture, Power, and Uncertainty in Myanmar, under contract with Routledge/Taylor & Francis (upcoming spring 2025). Her international museum work for the Smithsonian Institution and the American Museum of Natural History has taken her to 130+ countries, and she is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society.
